Kodaline - All I Want

On Friday, I watched the All I Want music video by Kodaline. It inspired my group to change the angle we first intended to use. At first, we wanted a fun upbeat song with a female vocalist but after listening and watching this song and video, we have changed our mind. This video showed us how we can allow the audience to feel emotional by the use of different shots and props - for example, the main character in the video is shown as an artistic, sporty and musical man which emphasises how good a man he is however no-one loves him. What I like about this video is that it does not follow the lyrics word for word however it still manages to relate to the lyrics and the song complements the emotional meaning behind the shots.

The Film was released September 11th 2009. It was written and directed by Andrea Arnold and produced by Kees Kasander, Lisette Kelder, Christine Langan, Nick Laws, David M. Thompson and Paul Trijbits.

Table - technology, research&planning, post-production and convetions

Prelim choices

For our prelim, we had many different ideas of what songs we could use. We wanted something fun and different to maybe what the other groups were thinking of but we found it difficult picking the right song with a lot of camera shots and angles that were also easy to copy.

Firstly, we were thinking of doing the first 20 seconds of This Is Gospel by Panic At The Disco. The mise-en-scene would be easy to copy and we could take it in turns to lie on the bed and lip sync. But then we thought this wouldn't be fun enough so we changed our idea:

Now we have agreed on a different song and we have already filmed it with similar backgrounds as shown in the music video. We chose Rockstar by Nickleback because there are a lot of varied camera angles and the lyrics are fun to follow:

Possible song choices

My group and I have chosen a few songs that we would like to do this year:

Paramore - (One of Those) Crazy Girls
You Me At Six - Fresh Start Fever
All Forgotten - Deadweight
Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros - Home

We would prefer to chose a song that hasn't already got a music video and preferably one that is upbeat. Luckily, my group and I have similar music tastes and we enjoy listening to bands such as We Are The Ocean and A Day To Remember so choosing a song is quite easy for us. However, we really like the Paramore song we chose and have already got a clear idea of what we want to do. We are very excited about doing Paramore as they are one of our favourite bands and having a female lead singer means finding a female lip syncer easier as we attend an all girls' school.

Macklemore..

I have been searching on YouTube for other students' music videos purely out of interest and also for the possibility of inspiration. I came across a really good music video made by four students from Carshalton Boys Sports College. What I like about this video is that it is humourous as well as interesting and the the boys manage to lip sync really well! Also, the effects are good and it is evident that a lot of time was spent on the editing.

Abstract music video

This music video by "OK GO" reflects an abstract style that we may use for our final project. I like the fact that the entire video was done in one shot and although this would be extremely hard to do, it would be really cool and different if we were able to do so. Also, the funky and quirky ideas put into this video is something my group and I want to achieve.
